Originally published in the BCN Society's journal Boundary Post, all of Edward Paget-Tomlinson's 26 black & white drawings of disparate aspects of the Birmingham Canal Navigations have been brought together, with historical background on each by Ray Shill. Edward, who died in 2003, is well-known for his superb canal reference books (Colours of the Cut, Canal & River Navigations, Britain's Canal & River Craft etc.), whilst Ray specialises particularly in the historical aspects of the BCN, and has written many books on the subject.
The drawings represent parts of the BCN at various dates over the last 100 years or so, and they are complemented by a collection of photographs of many of the scenes either in the past, or recently. These may show few changes, or in most cases, things have changed dramatically.
