A Walk Through History
  • Author: Peter Silvester
  • Binding: Paperback
audlem locks front cover

The walk or cycle ride along the flight of canal locks at Audlem is perhaps one of the finest in the area. The 15 locks lift Thomas Telford's Shropshire Union Canal (opened in 1835) from the Weaver Valley over 90 feet up into Shropshire. Starting at the aqueduct over the Weaver, the route takes you just over two miles to the border with Shropshire, passing Audlem Wharf and the 15 canal locks, set amongst stunning scenery.

Most of the route is accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited walking capacity.

This fully illustrated book describes the route, covering the path, historical and other structures; it also provides information on parking, access and local facilities.
